Facilitation 101.
The Mirror Map.
Facilitation isn't sticky notes and clever workshop tricks. It's how you show up in front of a group, how you manage your energy and how you hold space for others while staying grounded in yourself. A one-day, hands-on session to find your facilitation persona, the version of you that stays confident and present even when the room is unpredictable.
What you
actually leave with.
Not a toolkit of templates. A clearer, tested picture of the facilitator you already are, and the one you're becoming.
For you, as an individual
- A clearer picture of your own facilitation persona, the version of you that shows up naturally under pressure.
- A personal ritual for managing your energy before, during and after a session, tested live, not just described.
- A practiced response to six classic disturbances every facilitator eventually meets, tried out in a safe room first.
- A certificate of completion and your own Mirror Map, a personal record of where you started and where you're heading.
For your team
- A shared vocabulary for group dynamics and energy, so facilitators across the team describe sessions the same way.
- A common approach to handling disruptive participants, so no one is improvising alone in the room.
- A stronger bench of confident facilitators, not just one person carrying every workshop.
- Facilitators who know when to step in and when to step back, so participants do the actual work.
It starts with you,
not the method.
Most facilitation training teaches tools: sticky notes, templates, timeboxes. Useful, but not the hard part. The hard part is you, standing in front of a group, holding space while staying grounded in yourself.
Facilitation is vulnerable work. It asks you to stay open, read group energy and handle the unexpected, often all at once. Knowing the method doesn't prepare you for that moment. Practicing it does.
By the end of the day, you leave with your own Mirror Map, not a checklist: a working sense of your facilitation persona, your energy rituals, and the exact moment your own style tends to slip.
Four chapters.
One day.
The Past: Call to Adventure
Storytelling prompts that map the sparks, hard lessons and formative moments that shaped your facilitation style so far.
The Present: In the Arena
A live diagnostic of your stage persona, your go-to strengths, and the current challenge you're actually trying to untie.
The Disturbances
Practice reading and handling six classic disruptive participants, from the Monopolizer to the Boss, in scenario play before it happens for real.
The Future & Inner Compass
Name the impact you want to have, the next skill you're ready to grow into, and the values and energy that keep you grounded in the room.
This day teaches you to read your own arc as much as the group's. Every phase name comes from the Mirror Map itself, so it's a framework you keep using on yourself long after the session ends.
Story, diagnosis,
practice, compass.
Where you've been, in your own words
Origin story, early guides and mentors, the sessions that forged your style.
Where you actually are right now
Stage persona, superpowers and blind spots, the current knot you're trying to untie.
Six live scenarios, played out before they happen for real
The disturbance types, rehearsed in a safe room, not read about in a slide.
Where you're headed, and what keeps you steady getting there
North star impact, next skill cliff, core values and your own signature energy cue.
"Facilitation isn't just about sticky notes, methods or clever workshop tricks. It's about you: how you show up in front of a group, how you manage your energy, how you hold space for others while staying grounded in yourself."
That's the starting premise of the day, and the reason it runs as a mirror, not a manual.
The Disturbance Types
The Monopolizer, the Observer, the Sales Executive, the Soloist, the Boss and the Analyst: six disruptive patterns every facilitator eventually meets, drawn from real workshop rooms across 25+ countries.
Each one gets its own scenario. You practice the exact facilitator moves, redirecting a Monopolizer, drawing out an Observer, grounding a Soloist, before you meet the real version in your own sessions.
By the end, you're not just aware these patterns exist. You've already rehearsed your response to each one.
New facilitators
and old hands alike.
Anyone stepping into the role of facilitator, whether you're already experienced, just starting out, or simply curious. No prior facilitation experience required.

Delivered in-house for your own facilitators, trainers or workshop leads, whether they're running their first session or their five-hundredth.
Also works as a shared reset for a training or consulting team before a busy season of workshops.
For individuals

Bring your own current challenge. Leave with a Mirror Map that's actually yours.
Designed and
led by me.
I built this session from more than two decades of facilitating rooms across 25+ countries, and from watching the same six disruptive patterns show up in almost every one of them. It's the training I wish I'd had when I started.
My clients include Under Armour, ING, Bosch, Philips and SAP. I co-authored This Is Service Design Thinking, one of the field's standard references, and I lecture at TU Delft, IE Business School and the Oslo School of Architecture and Design.
Before you
reach out.
Do I need facilitation experience already?
No. The day works whether you're facilitating your first session or your five-hundredth. The Mirror Map adapts to wherever you're starting from.
Is this about tools and templates?
Not primarily. You'll pick up practical moves for handling group dynamics and disruptive participants, but the core of the day is your own presence and style, not another toolkit.
What do I actually walk away with?
Your own Mirror Map: a personal record of your facilitation story, your current stage persona, the challenge you're working on and the impact you want to have next. Plus a certificate of completion.
Can this run for a whole team of facilitators?
Yes. In-house sessions work well for a team of trainers, consultants or workshop leads who want a shared language for group dynamics and energy, not just an individual reflection.
Do you deliver outside the Netherlands?
Yes. I've facilitated in more than twenty five countries, and this session travels the same way, in-house or at conferences.
